So proud...

I spent the majority of yesterday afternoon pursuing a new hobby.  Let me start by saying that we went to a consignment sale Saturday morning and while I didn't rack up, I found myself wandering through the smocked outfit section.  We swore up and down we would never put Holden in smocking because its just so girly and I was never a fan.  Oh how childbirth changes your opinion!!!  While my son will not be seen in bubble suits or girly smocked jumpers, I did find the CUTEST seersucker swim trunks with a teen whale smocked on it.  And then I found a jumper/overall thingie with embroidery on it.  Thats when things clicked and mama went on a mission!  I have tons of seersucker leftover from a failed baby blanket project.  Sleepy/screaming Holden and I went to the fabric store for a pattern and a few hours and four letter words later, voila..

The pocket is a little low on him because the outfit is a touch too big but my fattie will fit in no time, I'm sure.  My husband had the great idea of getting some green fabric and cutting it to look like grass and sticking it out of the pocket.  I also have some bunny buttons that I am going to sew onto the grass and there's our easter outfit!  She's crafty!!  Please note, I have never sucessfully sewed an outfit before but this one was super simple.  Holden is going to have alot of these now, especially since I have an embroidery setting on my machine and can put cute designs or his name on the front.  It screws up on seersucker but some nice linen-like overalls is my next project.
These are $60 outfits that I'm making for less than $10, people!!  I'm also going to make little squares of fabric that will button on with various designs so they can be switched out. Hopefully, this hobby will stick and if I get good enough, maybe I can make a few bucks.  We'll see.
