Friday: Will got home a little early so we fed Holden and hit the road. He slept most of the trip, woke up to eat and then behaved the rest of the way to Nashville. He is such a great road tripper, looking around, talking to his mirror and generally maintaining a good mood. We stopped off to see Will's mom who was in town with family (her brother had surgery at Vanderbilt and all went well). Holden smiled and charmed all the ladies, which is his new hobby. Then we drove over to our friends house to get settled. We hung out with his new friend, Annalise, who is about 18 months old, and her parents. Holden spent his first night away from home in Analise's pack-n-play and slept through the night, waking up at his usual 5 am.
Saturday: We got up, had some tasty pancakes, courtesy of Jinanne, loaded up their Tahoe with two babies and 4 adults and headed out to Opry Mills, the outlet mall. Karma was on our side because we got rock star parking..the very first spot by the door!!! We hit the Gymboree outlet store first and loaded up Holden's summer and fall wardrobe. My son is going to be STYLIN', people! We hit a few stores ourselves and by lunchtime the outlet mall, which is probably 3 times bigger than any mall I've ever been in, was FULL of tourists, parents and screaming babies. Ready for lunch, and on the verge of having screaming babies ourselves, we raced out of there and headed home for naps and showers.
Saturday evening, we met up with Will's mom and her sister, Aunt Madge, for dinner. We visited with some of the other relatives and friends for a little while and Holden continued to charm. Aunt Madge declared that holding babies wasn't her thing. Of course, this was the wrong thing to say because then this happened:
Holden took a liking to Aunt Madge, who is a wonderful story teller. Here he is listening to one of her stories:
And when he got hungry, Boo (Will's mom, Butter), stepped in and took charge:
We went off to dinner with Holden, Boo and Aunt Madge. Holden, as usual, was very well behaved, sleeping through dinner AND the whole way home!
Sunday: We woke up and had a big and tasty breakfast with Hunter and Jinanne. We found out that while we were out of town, Memphis got 12 INCHES of snow in some places!!!! Of course, we go out of town and miss the biggest snowfall in quite a while. We hit traffic this side of Jackson and it wound up taking us 5 hours to drive what normally would take 3. We stopped at a rest stop so Holden could eat. I was worried that all this time in his car seat would make him grumpy and that we would be dealing with a fussy baby. What?!? My Holden, fuss?!? He didn't. He slept and looked around the whole way. He did have the occasional whine when his pacifier fell out of his mouth but other than that, he was the picture of a perfect road trippin baby!
Whew...it's been a long weekend. We are off to unpack and get re-organized!
